GLOBAL DMDI SAUDAGAR: BRIDGING CIVILIZATIONS, MOVING THE ECONOMY

In an increasingly interconnected world, civilization no longer moves within narrow boundaries, but flows across national borders—bringing people together through ideas, trade, and values passed from one generation to the next. In this ever-evolving landscape, the Islamic World Malay World (DMDI) emerged not by chance, but through a planned and visionary journey since its founding in 2000, and has emerged as a global platform where heritage meets opportunity and identity meets the future. Under the leadership of Tun Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam, DMDI has grown beyond an institution into a living civilizational movement, strengthening its intellectual foundations, cultivating human resources, and expanding its influence in 23 member countries. From cultural preservation to strategic economic engagement—marked by partnerships such as a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MATRADE and the launch of the DMDI Global Business Club in Melaka—these developments reflect a deeper belief: that the strength of a civilization lies not only in its history, but also in its ability to transform networks into meaningful collaboration, and values into a shared, globally relevant future.

Saudagar DMDI Global: Bridging Civilization, Powering Economies

“DMDI is not merely a network, but a bridge where heritage becomes opportunity.”

In an increasingly interconnected world, civilization no longer moves within narrow geographical boundaries. It transcends borders, uniting people through ideas, trade, and values passed down from one generation to the next. Within this vast current, the Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam (DMDI) emerged—not as a historical coincidence, but as the result of a strategic journey shaped by clear awareness and vision.

Since its establishment in 2000, following the resolution of the first Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam Convention, DMDI has laid its foundation as a global platform that brings together the strengths of culture, economy, and community networks. It is not merely an organization, but a meeting space where identity encounters opportunity, and heritage meets the future.

The appointment of TYT Tun Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam as World President marked the beginning of a leadership era that propelled DMDI beyond national boundaries. Under his leadership, DMDI grew not only as an institution, but as a civilizational movement uniting the Malay and Islamic worlds in a shared spirit.

Entering the phase from 2012 to 2015, DMDI strengthened its intellectual and institutional structure. The establishment of the Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam Museum in Melaka became more than just a historical symbol—it is a space that revives the memory of civilization while connecting it to the direction of the future.

During the same period, various educational seminars as well as youth and women’s development programs were implemented. DMDI began to evolve from merely a network into an active entity in human capital development—shaping a generation that not only understands its heritage, but is also capable of translating it into the modern world.

The publication of the Wasatiyyah Strategy in 2015 marked an important milestone in this journey. It is not just a document, but a framework of thought that balances values and progress, identity and globalization—serving as a guide in shaping DMDI’s future direction.

The next phase, from 2016 to 2024, demonstrated a more significant leap. DMDI emerged as an increasingly influential global platform, organizing annual conventions involving 23 member countries. Each gathering not only expanded networks but also strengthened trust among nations sharing common civilizational roots.

The 22nd Convention in 2024 symbolized this continuity. It reinforced cross-country cooperation in various sectors—economy, education, and culture—proving that the networks built are not merely symbolic, but function as a real collaborative ecosystem.

Entering 2025, DMDI moved into a more strategic phase. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MATRADE opened a new chapter in expanding trade promotion and exports among member countries. This marks an important transition—from a cultural network to a more structured and impactful economic platform.

“When culture meets commerce, a new chapter of civilization begins.”

In this phase, DMDI began positioning the economy as the new driving force of its movement. It recognizes that cultural strength must be complemented by economic strength in order for a civilization to stand more firmly in a competitive global landscape.

The focus on business opportunities and strengthening economic networks has become a priority. DMDI is no longer merely a space for the exchange of ideas, but a catalyst for economic collaboration that opens pathways for investment, innovation, and sustainable growth.

In this spirit, a historic moment was created in Melaka. The launch of the DMDI Global Traders Club became a symbol of a major transformation in the organization’s journey—signifying that the civilizational network is now actively moving to build the economic strength of the community.

The launch ceremony, held with great grandeur at the Noble Resort Hotel, Melaka, was officiated by TYT Tun Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam. It was not merely an event, but a declaration that a new era for DMDI has begun.

Also present were key figures who form the backbone of this movement—YBhg. Prof. Emeritus Datuk Wira Dr. Haji Mohd Jamil Mukmin, YBhg. Dato’ Hjh Joyah Abd Rashid, Datuk Said Aldi Al Idrus, Mohammad Hasbi, Secretary General of DMDI Indonesia, as well as representatives from financial institutions and entrepreneurs from various sectors.

Their presence reflected one clear truth—that the strength of DMDI lies not merely in its structure, but in the people who drive it forward.

In her speech, Dato’ Hjh Joyah Abd Rashid expressed that the establishment of the DMDI Global Traders Club stemmed from the aspiration to organize Malay-Islamic business strategies in a more structured and competitive manner at the international level.

She emphasized that the club is not merely symbolic, but a platform that builds an inclusive and progressive economic network—connecting traders within an ecosystem that mutually strengthens one another.

The membership structure introduced reflects a strategic approach. Exclusive Membership opens opportunities for mega projects and international networks, while Standard Membership serves as an entry point for new entrepreneurs to grow.

This approach ensures that every level of entrepreneur—from beginners to global players—has a fair opportunity to thrive within the same ecosystem.

Beyond that, the DMDI Global Traders Club carries a phased vision—beginning with capacity building, expanding into strategic collaboration, and ultimately opening access to global markets.

Within this framework, DMDI is no longer merely building networks, but shaping the economic future of the community—rooted in values, yet operating within global realities.

The closing pantun delivered symbolizes the spirit upheld together—that unity is the foundation of strength, and togetherness is the path to prosperity.

Ultimately, the evolution of DMDI Global reflects a cohesive journey—from a civilizational movement to a strategic platform that unites culture, networks, and economics. It stands as proof that when values are aligned with vision, and networks are strengthened through action, a force emerges that is capable of shaping a more inclusive, competitive future rooted in civilization.
