From Jakarta to The World – The 23rd DMDI Convention As A Turning Point For The Resurrection of Malay-Islamic Civilization

The 23rd World Melayu Islamic World (DMDI) Convention is not merely an annual gathering—it is the heartbeat of a living civilization. It is a solemn testimony that the legacy of the Malay world and Islam is not a relic embalmed in history, but a living force shaping identity, thought, and destiny across nations. In an era when globalization often erodes cultural roots and dilutes spiritual memory, DMDI rises as a steadfast pillar— preserving heritage, strengthening unity, and weaving the scattered threads of a shared lineage into one noble tapestry.

At the helm of this movement stands His Excellency Tun Seri Setia Dr. Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam, President of DMDI—more than a leader, he is a guardian of continuity. Under his steady guidance, DMDI is not defined merely by its organizational structure, but by the soul that breathes within it. With vision both sharp and far-reaching, Tun Ali has navigated this international organization with wisdom rooted in tradition and courage shaped by experience. He preserves the dignity of the Malay identity, lifts the banner of Islamic civilization with grace, and nurtures bonds of fraternity across continents—like a statesman whose leadership is not proclaimed, but felt.

In the grand hall of Gedung Nusantara IV, within the Kompleks Parlemen Senayan, that evening the brotherhood of the Malay world came alive in a single line of leaders. The Chairman of the Regional Representative Council of Indonesia, Sultan B. Najamudin, stood at the center of the stage delivering his remarks at the Welcome Dinner of the 23rd Convention Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam ke-23, which brought together delegates from 16 DMDI member countries. At his side was the Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, along with key leaders and figures of the DMDI network from across the archipelago and the wider Malay world.

That evening was not merely a ceremonial banquet. It became a symbol of a historic gathering—when political leaders, thinkers, and Malay community figures came together in one space to recall the roots of a civilization that once stretched from the shores of the archipelago to various parts of the world. Sultan Najamudin emphasized that the 23rd DMDI Convention in Jakarta is a momentum to revive the greatness of the Malay tradition, which for centuries has shaped literacy, culture, and the face of Islamic civilization in the region.

Before the delegates, he also conveyed his respect to the President of DMDI, Mohd. Ali Rustam, who has provided strong support for the resurgence of the global Malay network. The presence of leaders from various countries that night marked that the spirit of Malay brotherhood is still alive—a civilizational network that not only remembers the past, but also looks toward the future with the conviction that the Malay world will once again play an important role in global discourse.

In a moment marked by dignity and gratitude, Tun Seri Setia Dr. H. Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam, President of Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam (DMDI), presented awards to distinguished individuals whose contributions have strengthened the advancement of Malay culture and the values of Islam across nations. The ceremony honored figures from various countries, including Indonesia, whose dedication and service have helped preserve the heritage, knowledge, and moral foundations that continue to shape the Malay–Islamic world.

More than a gesture of recognition, the presentation of these awards symbolized a shared commitment to safeguarding a living civilization. Through scholarship, leadership, cultural stewardship, and community service, the recipients have carried forward the legacy of a tradition that has long bridged faith, knowledge, and humanity across borders.

In honoring their contributions, DMDI reaffirmed a timeless truth: that civilizations endure not merely through monuments or institutions, but through the quiet perseverance of individuals who devote their lives to nurturing culture, strengthening communities, and illuminating the path for future generations.
